Inspection systems for heavy plates

Steel products, such as heavy plates and thick plates, must meet a number of requirements, as they have to withstand high loads in their area of application. Our PLAMAT plate inspection systems use testing methods such as ultrasound, phased array ultrasound or eddy current plus micro magnetic to ensure that semi-finished products are flawless and of the highest quality.

Your Benefits

Shortened scan times ensure optimized procedures
Automated evaluation of data according to international or internal standards
Low operation and maintenance costs

Ultrasound testing of plates

Our modular inspection system for automated ultrasound (UT) testing of heavy plates and strips can be adapted to your specific environment and optimized for different manufacturing processes. There are three basic design variants: The inspection system is positioned above the roller conveyor and checks the plate from above. The inspection system is integrated into the roller conveyor and inspects the plate from below. The plate lies on a deposit table during inspection.

The plate inspection system uses ultrasound with water gap coupling . After inspection the automatic evaluation software analyzes the plate according to preselected testing standards.

Mobile and stationary hard spot detection for heavy plates

We offer a mobile and stationary inspection system for testing heavy plates for hard spots, i.e. localized superficial hardness increases on the plate surfaces. Based on the combination of eddy current and incremental permeability analysis, the mobile detector allows the detection and characterization of hard spots with diameters above 20 mm and relative hardness increases to the base material of 30 HV10. Data is obtained from the variation in local magnetic hysteresis of the material, which includes both the micromagnetic and microstructural properties of the steel.

This allows the determination of a variety of different magnetic parameters of the steel. A statistical and machine learning approach is used to establish correlations between the signals and different material properties. This enables accurate analysis of local hardness and representation of its distribution over the entire steel plate surface. The mobile system comes with user-friendly software that facilitates preparation and operation procedures. The software package allows a simple setup of a semi-automated calibration procedure and a live visualization of the measurement results as the sensor head moves across the plates.
