Advanced testing methods to monitor material properties

IDS offers testing solutions for a variety of different demanding industries. This includes the steel industry with the production of heavy plates. Conventional ultrasonic inspection solutions are typically used to detect defects during the production of such plates. This is important to ensure the safety of demanding industries.

Therefore, steel manufacturers require more advanced testing methods to monitor important material properties such as the hardness of steel plates during production. Our methods serve as an additional quality control in production and make it possible to examine the surfaces of the plates for hard spots, i.e. to localize hardness increases in the steel. Micromagnetic and eddy current methods are used for this purpose. This step is extremely important for pipelines that are operated with aggressive, acidic media, which generally contain a high proportion of hydrogen sulphide.

An important Japanese large sheet metal manufacturer relies on us: after having sold three mobile hard spot detectors, we have received a follow-up order - in addition to the delivery of a mobile detector, we have also received an order for a fully automatic in-line hard spot detection machine with which we can monitor sheets with a width of up to 5 meters.
